The story itself is rather straightforward and nothing to write home about, but serves its job well of further world-building and character introduction.

This movie shows the incident with the mysterious villain Getou, which was only mentioned in passing/hinted at in the series, and finally fleshes Getou out as a complex character with interesting motives and backstory. The story is a prequel to the series, and stars previously unseen character Yuta. anime but did not buy into the hype train at all. However, how is the movie in terms of actual content? Pretty damn good I must say, even coming from someone who enjoyed the

Jujutsu Kaisen seems to be following the same strategy, having been arguably the most popular anime series released in 2020, and judging by how absolutely packed the movie theater was, it will probably be another record-setting anime film in terms of financial success. In 2019, Kimetsu no Yaiba took the anime world by storm and then followed up with a movie in late 2020 that smashed all box office records to become the top grossing movie of all time in Japan.

But Honestly I just don't think I would've cared about this movie at all If I had watched it before the show.

Perhaps I had become much more jaded and salty on shounens sometime after watching the Jujutsu Kaisen TV show and if I go back into it I wouldn't like it as much. I really don't know why my opinion of this show seems to be so negative compared to the overwhelmingly positive opinions, I really just can't find much redeeming features about it. It felt like they comprised of 50% great animated movement and 50% dust clouds and explosions, and while well animated the fights lacked any new interesting moves, strategy and teamwork that was staple of the TV show. Whilst the animation was great and better than that of the show the choreography of the fights was simply not as good. I also don't really feel like I had gained much insight of the JJK world after watching this. I did not like the writing or direction, The fast but focused pacing of the TV series slow to a crawl in this movie with far too many scenes that repeat information from the show that proves no relevance to the story and some truly horrible shounen story tropes written Perhaps my intense hatred is due to the high expectations I had before going in after seeing the reviews, hype and remembering how great the show was but I do know for sure I don't think the movie is very good at all. I love Jujutsu Kaisen but I fucking hated watching this movie in theaters. As Getou strives to claim Rika's strength and use it to eliminate all non-jujutsu users from the world, Yuuta fights alongside his friends to stop the genocidal plot. Yuuta clumsily utilizes Rika on missions with the other first-year students, but the grisly aftermath of Rika's tremendous displays of power draws the interest of the calculating curse user Suguru Getou. Yet Yuuta struggles to find his place among his talented classmates: the selectively mute Toge Inumaki, weapons expert Maki Zenin, and Panda. Gojou sees immense potential in Yuuta, and he hopes to help the boy channel his deadly burden into a force for good. Yuuta's unique situation catches the attention of Satoru Gojou, a powerful sorcerer who teaches at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Rika Orimoto, Yuuta's curse, is a shadow from his tragic childhood and a potentially lethal threat to anyone who dares wrong him.

Yuuta is saddled with a monstrous curse, a power that dishes out brutal revenge against his bullies. Violent misfortunes frequently occur around 16-year-old Yuuta Okkotsu, a timid victim of high school bullying.
